No 9:30 am postup today. Actually indisposed for the 8:30- 9:30 session of writing/blogging (temple trip today! It's so nice to have one relatively nearby to home; you know us Mormons...). But, hey, here I am anyway. The usual format for this blog will go like this: I write for an hour straight, then at the end, I post up everything I've got written. Couldn't happen today, and it won't be able to happen tomorrow (cleaning the church! you know us Mormons...) But I have a bunch of notes already, on the plot and everything, figure I could dump those off here- if you don't like spoilers, well. They're numerous, so I'd steer clear. What are you doing on a read-along-as-it's-written blog anyway?
So far yet I haven't had the typical day of how I'd imagined it would be- actually writing the story instead of writing about it. But it's only two days in, and getting the ground broken is the most important part. I realize that probably no days of writing are going to be "typical;" I just have to force my way through it, one hour at a time, whether it would be the most convenient or not. It's kind of the reason I started this thing...
Starting this new blog up on the new year is somewhat coincidental, actually- maybe it is a resolution, and maybe it isn't. If you go back through events leading up to this, well, I at least see it as fortunate alignment of timing- you may view events as they wish. Really I only saw staying up till midnight the night before last as a good excuse to catch up on some Season 3 of Elementary.
Stayed up till midnight last night too... Knowing in advance that I wouldn't have the 8:30-9:30 block open, there was a lot of getting stuff done beforehand... Not only tossing down the basics for this placeholder post of sorts, but also going through TV Tropes (and inevitably, Cracked tangentially as well a bit)- looking up spy tropes, passing it off as research. Finished with my main line of research, now, but, still have a couple of tabs open of that... and a couple more tabs of Wikipedia.
I did truly come up with a lot of pretty neat ideas, though. Got 'em all written down. So those count as post-up-able material... Spoilers, though? Ah, what the heck, I'll go through with it. Brainstorming, first of all, a fairly important step in the writing process, though at first I'd really thought that my first draft would be more "discovery" writing; there's still plenty of room for that.
The original idea doesn't really suggest many espionage tropes, but I've found a couple of ways to make it fit, and perfectly. There are almost as many ways to handle the genre of espionage thriller as there are properties about it. Fun and silly to gritty and paranoid- supernatural espionage kind of lends itself to both, so I don't think it would be best to impose too many arbitrary restraints...
I will have that stuff up for you tomorrow. Hitting the hay for now, though- not repeating the by-the-next-day bedtime of my previous two nights. Salud!
