day 30 pt 9: xemf fight till midnight

155 words in ten minutes can I make it???

201 words YAASSS

day 30 pt 8: cambodian flashback

Kay so I haven't figured out how to get Gef to take a whiz on MacBeth or anything yet, but I've managed to build some connective tissue between a few flashbacks. There are a few continuity errors, but we can fix those in February, the official NaNoWriMo revision month.

technically I have over 50k words now, but I'm still on a roll to the end of the day, so hey

day 30 part 7: slit is defeated

Slit jerked to the side, his blade inches away from Moone's throat, and fell to the black tiled level a few feet below, landing perfectly on his feet. He stumbled back, as if made of magnets and repulsed physically by the iron particles, into the hall-like antechamber to the inner vault. The particles didn't affect Moone at all; there really was something inherently magical about these assassins.
The dust swirled around quickly in the warm air, spreading out to cover the whole room.Moone could only watch as Slit was pushed into the bottleneck leading into the room, avoiding the cold iron cloud. Slit may have been cornered, but now he was cornered with Moone's teammates, and without Moone there to help them.

day 30 pt 6: poker tourney prt 4

Sorry it took so long to get this up. I had a lot of this written, but it was all at the tail end, and I decided you'd probably want the final poker stuff to be posted up in order, so I took my time writing the front half as well instead of doing part 5 then part 4. So really these are parts four AND five for you here.

day 30 pt 5: meeting unwin

Setting things up for Gef's goon squad bursting in. original 2017 nanowrimo content in italics, for context.

day 30 part 4: how macbeth did it (topic 9/27)

marksmongoose is such a good word

day 30 pt 3: poker tourney pt 3 (variants explained)

You realize how difficult it is not to make "Omaha" the Cat Dancer references, when talking about Omaha hold 'em? It is extremely difficult. I mean, it's not like it would be anachronistic of me or anything, just... it would hardly be in character for anybody.

Also, Mutual of Omaha. Maybe Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom? But then I'd just be sorely tempted to bend it back around to the Cat Dancer again. Shoot man I don't know.

day 30 pt 2: the assassins attack

I'm making 500 words an hour, easily. 7,500 words left, that's... a little under. But I still have a thousand or so words of poker that I just need to polish up before I post up and add to my canonical wordcount, so we hecka good. A little over 600 words here of original word count; I'm adding context for your reading ease though.

day 30 pt 1: portal ritual

The Tower of Terror, my first choice, wasn't built until 1994. Nuts to it all. Space Mountain is fine though, heck why not. Ace Ventura also would not be released until '94, and while the phrase "well alrighty then" did conceivably exist before that time... it didn't exist before that time. THE EARLY 90S IS SUCH A WAY DIFFERENT PLACE YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

day 29 pt 3: highway fight

Andrew suggested that the original, just Kissifer attacking after all that buildup, was kind of underwhelming, so I hope this is better. There's still room for more in this scene, but this is as much as I've time to do for now. ciao

Day 29 pt 2: poker tourney pt 2

I think maybe I like the minor characters so much because they're just random and distinct, Not so good at characterization, everyone just sort of talks like me, but in the minor guys you can have a sort of Kuleshov effect where whatever character action can be ascribed to some aspect of their more distinct personality. cool, n'est-ce pas?

day 29 pt 1: moone & pontifex convos

NEED TO WRITE ALL DAY AARRGHHH

day 28- poker tourney part 1

This isn't all I've finished today, but it is all I've finished. Maybe tomorrow I'll toss in some word count about the rules of each of the five poker variations. We'll see if it's necessary. It wouldn't be out of place, and I'm desperate for word count by this point with only two days to go, so... yeah I''m probably going to do it just you watch me

day 27- a backstory, poker!!, and so words about cannibalistic rites

I know I already said Miracle's backstory as being a fairy changeling child; I've swapped that to be Rose's backstory. Not only does the homosexual/supernatural parallel fit with the poor dude's embarrassingly girly name, this new backstory fits with Miracle's role as a hacker, being more interested in the technological side of things.

And, poker game! Got the rules figured out. Interesting video Andrew recommended for research on auction varieties. I'll be back tomorrow with the game itself; this is just the setup of its rules and stuff. I'm sure I'll be able to squeeze a few thousand words out of the game itself, as I've written (copy/pastes into program with word count) 693 words just in overview. That's not even describing the rules and strategies of the individual poker variants I talk about!

EDIT: doing a bit more research, it turns out that it makes a lot more sense to have a full orbit, rotation around the table so that each person at the table gets to sit to the left of the dealer once, than to have it as just one hand of the game. Because that would represent a major lopsidedness if I get to bid first on stud hi-lo only one hand, while bidding last on the texas hold-'em. There are weird magical "individual player powers" at work, but I'm not sure if that balances everything out. 25 hands per table, with 50 hands played in the end? Or 5 hands, and only ten hands played in the end? I dunno yet. 50 hands seems like a lot, but it does give a lot of time for crunchy stuff to happen. So I'm leaning toward that.
Having the variant change every hand can make the game feel disjointed and lack flow. Players like the ability to get into a game and actually play a hand of the variation before it changes. Since you will fold most of the hands you'll be dealt, if only one hand of a variant is dealt, players may lose interest in the game.

There's not really a good way to rewrite the explanation right now without gutting a lot, and I really like this word count, so, eh. I'll fix it in post.

NaNoWriMo Day 26: daring escape part 3!: indoor car, motorcycle chase with pew-pew guns and jetpacks

Bad news is, I only finished one plot point today, out of the twenty remaining. Good news is that for that one plot point, I got in more than the minimum thousand words, by a lot. Woo. NaNoWriMo.org calculates that at this rate, I'll finish December 13th.

I mean, I did do more writing than just this; just, nothing that's ready to be seen yet is all. So that's two good newses to only one bad news. Yee

Day 25: spectacular escape sequence parts 1 and 2 (27 topics numbers 10 and 11)

Learned a few neat things about elevators today. With Jewish prohibitions against operating machinery on the sabbath, some elevators in centers of large Jewish population have sabbath modes, which just go up and down stopping at every floor so you can use the elevator without having to press any buttons for it. Pretty sneaky, sis.

Still haven't figured out exactly how the elevator stuff is going to go, but I've made a lot of progress. Probably would have made even more if I hadn't screwed off as much as I did, but we've still got a couple thousand words in today, and every little bit counts. The goal is three thousand, but two out of three ain't bad.
