some thoughts on disney's aladdin and stuff
Aladdin came out Wednesday, November 25, 1992. The Anachronominion ends very soon after the alt.horror.werewolves hierarchy was created on Usenet, which was Monday, November 16th, 1992. Is there a way to... I mean, I just feel like Finn would really love that movie. It ending, the way it does, with the title character tricking Jafar into becoming a genie himself- a surprisingly common trope, doubtless Moone himself has pulled it on at least one occasion, but very clever nonetheless!- I think he would feel a strong affinity toward Aladdin, in a way that can't wait until the second book.
the stuff in question
So, anyway. Still waiting on pounding out a second draft. I've got time for it, but my first-draft betareaders haven't done much (or any!) betareading in, months. You think I should pay them...? I think I should pay them. $5 a chapter sounds fair, right? Gosh, if it's not clear, I've never done this before.
Well, do your betareaders know they're betareaders? Am I a betareader? If so I don't know about it. I read it for fun and gave some feedback. I don't think you should pay them if you're poor. Especially 5 dollars a chapter, becasue there are a lot of chapters in that thing. One thing Calista did for betareaders of her book is let them know they were betareaders and basically just specifically asked them for help. She asked them to read the book and give feedback. She even had an entire long questionerre form for them to fill out with questions like "Was there a character you didn't understand?" "At what point did you first put the book down?" and "Are there parts you skipped to get to 'the good part'?" I think that by being super specific you can get a lot of feedback for free. Also, is there a place for me to read it that isn't on this blog? Because of the way you typed it and how the blog is laid out the chapters that come earlier are beneath the ones that come later so it's like in backward chronology. Maybe an email of a word document of it would be super helpful. Anyway, let me know if you want more feedback from me! I already gave you some but I'm totally willing to help you out more for free.
ReplyDeleteWell I'd say you're more of a... gamma reader? The "beta-read" idea was to, gauge people's expectations and stuff their first time through, as they're reading it. I can send you the full first draft Docs; I'll do that now.
